Red On My Dog's Tongue

devotion to Mary ...

WEDNESDAY '15 September 2010

liturgical color WHITE ; 4 th Week of the Psalter

Saint of the Day: ; Our Lady of Sorrows
Memory

The memory of the Sorrowful Mother is calling us to relive the decisive moment of history of salvation and to venerate the Mother associated with the passion of his son and raised on the cross next to him. Her motherhood becomes universal on Calvary. This memory source devotion in the Roman calendar was introduced by Pope Pius VII (1814). (Aug. Roma)

Etymology: Maria = loved by God, from Egyptian, lady, Hebrew

Martyrology: Memory of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Sorrows, which, at the foot of the cross of Jesus , was associated intimately and faithfully to the saving Passion of the Son and introduced himself as the new Eve, because, as the disobedience of the first woman led to the death, so his admirable obedience leads to life.

MEDITATION ...

From a sermon by Saint Bernard, abbot

(Discourse on the Sunday within the Octave of the Assumption 14-15; Opera omnia, ed. Cisterc. 5 [1968] 273 - 274)
The Mother of Jesus stood by the cross

The martyrdom of the Virgin is celebrated both in the prophecy of Simeon, as in the history of the passion of the Lord. He is placed, said the baby Jesus the holy old man, as a sign of contradiction, and a sword, then said, turning to Mary, will pierce your own soul (cf. Lk 2:34-35).
really a sword has pierced your soul, O holy Mother of us all! The rest would not reach the meat of the Son except through his mother's heart. Certainly, after your Jesus, who was for everyone, but especially yours, had died, the cruel spear could not reach his soul. When, in fact, not even respecting his death, he opened his side, he could no longer bear any damage to your Son. But you did. To you pierced your soul. The soul of him was no longer there, but your not it could definitely pull off. So the strength of pain went through your soul, and so not without reason that we can call more than a martyr, because participation in you the passion of the Son, is much greater than in the intensity, the physical suffering of martyrdom.
Was not for you more than a sword that word really pierced the soul and went so far as to divide soul and spirit? You said it was "Woman, behold your son" (Jn 19:26). Which exchange! John is given to you instead of Jesus, the servant instead of the Lord, the disciple in place of the teacher, the son of Zebedee in place of the Son of God, a mere man instead of the true God. Like listening to these words would pierce your soul so sensitive, when the only memory can also break our hearts, which are also stone and iron?
not be surprised, brethren, when you say that Mary was a martyr in spirit. It rather surprised that he does not remember having heard Paul include the largest faults of the pagans that they were deprived of affection. This crime was far from the heart of Mary, and is also far from its humble devotees.
Someone could probably argue, but did not know it in anticipation that Jesus would die? Sure. Was not sure that would soon be resurrected? Without doubt the strongest and trust. And despite what he suffered when he was crucified? Surely in a truly terrible. After all who you come you, brother, and what strange kind of wisdom is yours, if you wonder solidarity in sorrow of the Mother and Son, rather than the pain of the Son of Mary? He could have died in the body, and this could not die with him in his heart? Worked in the Son's love more than any other love. Mother worked in love, after which Christ's love no other can compare.

Responsor cf. Lk 23.33, Jn 19.25, Lk 2.35

STABAT MATER

The Sorrowful Mother
was in tears at the Cross
on which hung the Son.

And his soul groaning,
saddened and pained
a sword pierced.

Oh, how sad and afflicted
was the blessed Mother of the
!

How sad and regretted
the pious Mother
seeing the penis dell'inclito Son!

Who would not weep at
see the Mother of Christ
time torture?

Who would not mourn
to contemplate the holy Mother
grieving next to her Son?

Because of the sins of his people
She saw Jesus in torment,
subject to pests.

saw her sweet Son
dying, abandoned by all,
while exhaling the spirit.

Oh, Mother, source of love,
make me feel the same pain
why can cry with you.

Fa 'my heart burn
Christ in loving God
to make pleasing to him.

Holy Mother, do this:
impress the wounds of your crucified Son
strongly in my heart.

of your son wounded
who deigned to suffer for me,
share with me the pains.

me cry intensely with you,
sharing the pain of the Crucified,
as long as I live.

Beside the Cross would like to be with you,
in your company,
in late.

O glorious Virgin among the virgins
not be harsh with me,
make me cry with you.

Fa 'let me bring the death of Christ,
to share in his passion
and remind me of his wounds.

Fa ' it hurt his wounds,
intoxicate me with the Cross
and blood of your Son.

Let me not be burnt by the flames,
that I am, O Virgin, you defended
the Day of Judgement.

Fa 'that I am protected from the Cross,
that I am fortified by the death of Christ,
consulate from grace.

And when my body dies
ago 'that the soul is given
the glory of Paradise. Amen.
